Lube. Without it, fisting would not be possible. Sure, there people who talk about using spit or some other totally inappropriate substance as being sufficient, but for most people, and all practical purposes, please, USE LUBE and plenty of it. With that said, I’ve listed the most common lubes used for fisting, as well as some which I would not recommend, and descriptions of each. I encourage you to test them all out and find the one or ones that work best for you. It’s a very personal decision with each person having their own preference. Many people like to combine their lubes, concocting their own special formula which they claim to be the best. If it makes you happy and works well for you, go for it. I’ve listed them each on their own below.
A final thing on lubes, DO NOT, share lubes. If you’re using a jar of some lube and dip your hand in and out while playing with someone’s hole, make sure you do not use that same lube on another person. Keep each person’s lube separate. If you are at a fisting party, it is common for each person to have their own tub of Crisco (or other lube) with their name written on the side. Keeping it separate prevents transmission of STDs or just plain old bacteria that could be present.
Crisco
Without a doubt the long standing go-to lube for fisting, Crisco is still a favorite of many fisters. While newer lubes such as some of those listed below claim to be improvements over the old standard, as with most things, it all comes down to personal preference. In the US, Crisco can be found just about anywhere, which makes it a good failsafe if there is nothing else available. The drawbacks to Crisco are the same with all oil or greased based lubes, it will break down latex, so change your gloves often or use some of the newer types that are non-latex. (See Gloves for more info)
Slam Dunk
Some would say Slam Dunk, which comes in two varieties, has supplanted Crisco as the king of lubes for fisting. In fact, it’s label reads, “The Ultimate Penetrating Cream.” As with all things, I recommend you try it out, and decide for yourself. The major difference between Slam Dunk and Crisco, is that Slam Dunk has the addition of hydrogenated oils, mineral oil, and polyethelene polymer, which give it a ‘fluffier’ and creamy consistency. The other big difference is that the Original version, which comes in the red covered jars, has the addition of clove oil. Clove oil, while giving it a nice, yet distinct odor, has a mild numbing effect, which many people like. If you prefer it without this ingrediet, it also comes in an unscented variety.
Elbow Grease
As the name would imply, elbow grease has often been a common lube used by many fisters. It comes in several varieties, from regular, warming, and lite to name a few. Again, although this is only personal preference, I have not been a huge fan of it for fisting, and certainly not for extended play. I find that this too breaks down after a while, and can end up feeling gritty. But again, this lube, like all the rest, has its following of loyal fans.
Boy Butter
A recent entry to the lube market, it’s marketed as a premium lube designed for heavy assplay. Its special formula is supposed ot make it easier to wash off, always a plus. While I know several fans of this product, it is not my first choice when choosing lubes for fisting. However, as I keep repeating, I encourage you to test them all and find the one, or combination of lubes, which work best for you.
J-Lube
This is an interesting product. Originally (and still) marketed to vetenarians, it is a powder that you mix with water to create the ultimate slick and slimy lube. Sounds weird but it’s great for fisting. It is non-irritating, odorless, tasteless, non-staining, and non-toxic. One 10oz. plastic bottle with shaker top makes 6 to 8 gallons of lubricant. J-Lube breaks-down naturally in the body, and a few grains of table salt breaks down J-Lube on surfaces or on you in the shower. I find that J-Lube alone is not always sufficient, so I use it near the later part of my play after a fair amount of Crisoo or another grease based lube has been amply applied. A good thing to remember about J-Lube is that since it is water based, it is latex and condom compatible.
(Quick tip – Because J-lube has a tendency to clump up when you mix it, many people do things like put it in their blender, etc. to mix it up. You can RUIN your blender this way, and it is unnecessary. Here is what I have found to be the easiest and most efficient way to mix up a batch of J-Lube. Take a 24oz Sports Bottle of some brand of water, fill it up about 2/3 with warm watter. Add a rounded tablespoon of J-lube powder. Put the cap on, and shake vigorously. You will see some lumps. Let it stand for 10-15 minutes then shake again. You should be good to go. You can water it down if it’s too thick and get it to your desired consistency)
One last note on J-lube, often you will have a lot left over. It DOES NOT keep for very long. To extend its life, put it in the refrigerator, but do not store more than 2 weeks. It can grow mold or other things in it which are highly unpleasant. Considering how cheap it is per use, just dump whatever you don’t use and make a fresh batch when needed.
J-Jelly
A recent discovery of mine, it’s a really thick, water-based lube that seems to stay much slicker and wetter than most water based lubes. It, along with J-lube, is really the only water-based lube that I would even consider using myself.
Water-based Lubes
While they are condom and latex compatible, I would never use a standard water based lubes, such as Wet, Wet Light, H2O or any of the other numerous brands on the market. Just like with fucking, they get sticky and gummy relatively quickly, exactly what you DON’T want when your hand is going in, or worse, trying to come out, of someone’s hole. Again, the exceptions are J-Lube and J-Jelly. If you know of others that are suitable, please email me and let me know.
Aboline
I know of several people who are fans of this cream, which is actually a make-up remover. While it is very slick and starts off great, I find it breaks down relatively quickly and can become grainy or gritty. Again, this is my own personal experience, so if you find it in your local pharmacy and want to give it a try, go for it.
Vaseline
I put this in only because I have heard that some people have used Vaseline as their main lubricant for fisting. I have not met anyone who does, and I would most certainly NOT recommend it. It is thick and can get gummy at times. But again, personal preference should always rule.
Silicone Based Lubes (Eros, Wet Platinum, Gun Oil)
While I am an AVID fan of these for fucking and jerking off, I find that these products are insufficient for fisting. If you use enough, you will certainly be able to accomplish your goal, but considering the cost, the amount you need, and the fact that they just are not as slick as the grease-based lubes, I would not suggest you use these as your main fisting lube. I do know many people who use it along with other lubes, such as Crisco or j-lube and find it a great combination.
